What makes the Silver River Stargazing Tour unique?
Our tours take place within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve — one of the darkest skies in the world. With minimal light pollution and high altitude, it offers unrivaled stargazing and astrophotography opportunities.
Do I need prior astronomy knowledge or equipment?
Not at all! Our guides will walk you through everything. We provide all necessary equipment, including telescopes and warm jackets (if needed), and even a complimentary digital photo under the stars.
What should I wear or bring for the stargazing tour?
Wear warm layers, especially in cooler months. We recommend bringing a jacket, hat, and gloves. Cameras are welcome, but not required — we’ll send you a complimentary photo afterward.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes, children over 5 years old are welcome and usually love the experience! However, please be aware the experience takes place outdoors in low-light conditions.
What if the weather is cloudy or rainy?
If skies are too cloudy to run a meaningful stargazing experience, we’ll either reschedule your tour or issue a refund depending on your preference and availability.
Where do we meet before the tour?
Check-in is at Kiwi Treasures (12 Rapuwai Lane), Lake Tekapo. From there, we shuttle you to our private stargazing location.
Is there a Chinese-speaking guide available?
